Jamie Shupe becomes first legally non-binary person in the US
I’m literally sitting on my couch choked up and nearly in tears.
As a nonbinary person I’ve never felt like I had any options to legally be myself. It got to the point where I didn’t even want to bother with changing my name. But if this is possible for me, if my ID and passport can one day say ‘nonbinary’ instead of male or female…
In the midst of all my fear and doubt and sadness, maybe there’s still hope for me to be able to be myself.

“Since so many of you people felt the need to show up, well make an exception to the no subtitles rule, but never again.” -city employees when I, a Deaf person asked them to put on captions on community movie night (which is my fave movie tonight)
Translation: “I’m too lazy to accommodate your needs.”
Mod Reptonic(What a jerk)
Agreed that he is a jerk, but since they apparently have a “no subtitles” rule I think it goes beyond simply being too lazy to hit the “cc” button.
“I have such a profound sense of over-entitlement that I think it is more important to cater to the temporary distraction of hearing people who aren’t used to seeing subtitles/captions on the screen than it is to stop deliberately creating accessibility barriers that exclude people who are Deaf, deaf, hard of hearing, or have audio processing disorder. I define “community” to include only people who are hearing, anyone in the community who has a disability requiring the need for captions is not someone I see as a community member.”
