It’s no longer just a video hosting service, but a complex market which attracts the attention-seeking and rewards the self-promoting. There are plenty of nice decent people making money on youtube, but the system does very little to prevent garbage personalities from seeking the treasure and becoming reinforced by uncritical fanbases.
