More of a question for the mods: what do you guys think of the netflix series “Atypical”?

I’m pretty sure I’m the only active mod at this point, but I watched the first episode at a half, wanting to like it, but had to stop. I found the protagonist incredibly unlikable – not to mention clearly having been written with only a surface-level awareness of autistic traits – and disliked how much it focused on how hard it was for his parents.

Also his therapist was really bad? She didn’t really offer any advice beyond “be normal” and clearly had no idea how to actually help him.

I liked his sister and how his Dad genuinely tried to relate to him though

(also, given what I’ve heard about how he treats his girlfriend and is basically allowed to because he’s autistic, I’m glad I stopped when I did)

(please don’t send “well I liked it messages”. I was asked my opinion and gave it, you can debate it amongst yourselves but I’m not getting involved)

I wanted to add @secretly-rizahawkeye‘s tags to this because I think they make a really good point

#listen i watched all of atypical in one day before my self diagnosis and#even then it was pretty rough#the interactions are not good and all is does is perpetuate stereotypes that autistic people are weird or antisocial#so from my perspective now#its even worse
