This guy at my college about the wage gap and minimum wage, “You can’t eliminate income inequality until you eliminate effort inequality”

Manslation: So I know there’s a TON of data out there about how much harder women have to work for their money (without even factoring in race, sexuality, transness, etcetera)–but picture this: if you just tried EVEN HARDER then you’d eliminate the wage gap! Just ask for extra hours–every boss is happy to give them! Just get a second job! Just keep working until your skeleton disintegrates!

Oil Workers

Truckers

Builders

Engineers

Mechanics

Army

Waste Collection

Fire Fighters

Fishermen

Farmers

ect

All of these are typically and overwhelmingly male dominated jobs, all reasonably paid for their work. People in these jobs are factored into the general statistics so when the OP is talking about effort inequality they are referring to a number of high paying jobs that women DO NOT HOLD. If all industries internationally had 50% male/female split doing the exact same hours taking the exact same breaks there would be no information to support a wage gap because people are paid for the work they do, and men, statistically hold some of the hardest/most physical jobs and take less time off and THAT is the difference in averaged statistics that has created the wage gap myth in the west.

Manslation: I have no idea how the wage gap was calculated, nor have I ever considered WHY so many jobs are male-dominated, or looked into the history of women fighting for employment in ALL of these fields and being actively prevented from participating. In short, I have no idea what I’m talking about and would rather sit here with my fingers in my ears than find out.
