6 Gay Romance Movies That Won’t Make You Want To Die*
*Basically I’m seeing all these Very Hetero lists for Valentine’s Day, but I also know how hard it can be to find non-soul crushing gay romance films so:
Desert Hearts (1985) – A free spirit seduces a shy older professor in 1950′s Reno. Ground-breaking at the time (and now tbh) for giving two lesbians a happy ending.
My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) – A Pakistani young man in London inherits a run-down laundromat and sets out to spruce with up with the help of his boyfriend. The couple faces various threats of a Thatcher-era society, but are ultimately happy in the end.
But I’m A Cheerleader (1999) – This is rightfully on almost every queer film list I come across and a necessary staple. It’s about, you guessed it, a cheerleader, who is sent to a conversion camp and falls in love with one of her camp mates.
Imagine Me & You (2005) – A newlywed falls in love with the girl who did the flowers for her wedding. This obviously isn’t a masterpiece or anything but the two leads are so cute and you’ll have a great time.
The Way He Looks (2014) – A blind teenager gains feelings for his new best friend at school. It’s a small gem that makes me crave more simple, sweet, gay teen romances with happy endings and belle & sebastian songs.
Carol (2015) – …It’s Carol, y’all. I mean come on. Carol.
