Unfair and Lovely

For those who don’t know what the caption means – In India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and other Southeast Asian countries, there’s this brand called “Fair and Lovely” that makes creams and soaps that make your skin get lighter over time. All of its ads insinuate that people with lighter skin are prettier and are the ones who can get men to like them and superficial things like that. I love this picture so much because it shows that all brown girls are beautiful, especially those who have darker skin.

Darker skin?? Sorry but those women would be on the lighter side too. If they wanted to show that girls with darker complexions are beautiful, then they should have used women with dark skin.

1) no one is interested in a white woman’s critique of art created by women of color for women of color

2) never does a white woman get to determine whether two Tamil women are dark enough to express their plight of being dark, seeing that you have no concept of that struggle… Especially when many other WOC have identified with this piece… & shared stories of how they’ve been affected by colorism & how this piece makes them feel positively

3) if you have a problem with how a black artist frames the concept of colorism, go make your own art about colorism

I didn’t say they couldn’t just that from most of Indian Media I have seen, most women are of similar complexion. I know that social class is very prevalent in India and skin colour is determined by that too.
Isn’t art for the purpose of expression and conversation? Then should we discuss Indian Media and the issues colorism and what not.
Where does it say I’m white? I may have a lighter complexion but that does mot mean I’m white.

The fact that ur white passing + u won’t even acknowledge even that. This argument isn’t even worth it

Go OFF Faith.
Also why are woc constantly being faced with forces that try to invalidate our experiences??
