pt. 1 What makes a gender or a sexuality valid? I believe that they all are but others (even my closest friend who is ftm) thinks most of the things on your lists aren’t real :/ I wish I knew how to tell them why these things aren’t part of “special snowflake” syndrome. My friend who is ftm sometimes even invalidates (not directly) my gender (genderfluid) & sexuality (pansexual) by saying its tumblr culture and that its used to look “special”

genderfluidsupport:

pt.2 I know the reason he feels that way is because he’s actually met people who misused the term pan, it left a bad impression on him but it hurts. I’m scared to talk to him about it because I’m worried he’ll think I’m some weak will pansy who gets offended easily.I’ve told him the reason why I call myself pan and I was very civil about it and he even seemed to agree with me. Yet he still posts/talks about it negatively. I thought he would understand since he’s ftm and demisexual but he doesn’t
I find it strange that your friend identifies as demisexual and still invalidates genderfluidity/pansexuality. Unfortunately there are tropes of people who will choose to invalidate identities simply because they have a large population on Tumblr. Put it to your friend like this: genderfluidity, pansexuality, and many other identities existed before Tumblr. Nonbinary people have always existed, Tumblr has just offered information to them and a place to express themselves. Ask them how THEY would feel if someone invalidated their identity because they “found it on tumblr.” Hopefully that’ll make them realize how hypocritical and rude they’re being.
